Michigan Tastes & Tunes:  SXSW Day Party

Yes, Michigan! The great mitten state is set to invade Austin, TX with the inaugural Michigan Tastes & Tunes powered by Showclix at South By Southwest on Thursday March 15th at the Palm Door. A partnership between Grand Circus Media and Spencer Management Group presents a diverse and collaborative showcase highlighting Michigan’s dynamic collective of artists, flavors, and specialties. All Michigan bands, all Michigan brands are highlighted at one of the largest music festivals and conferences in the world.

Wayfarer Festival

It is with great excitement and anticipation that Grand Circus Media and the Majestic Theatre welcome American Babies featuring Tom Hamilton of Brothers Past, Kurt from the Dead String Brothers One Man Band Explosion, The Juliets, and Brian Sheehan to an already announced lineup of 9 roots, Americana, folk, and bluegrass artists.

Wayfarer will feature a rapid-fire evening of the regions most talented and engaging roots, bluegrass, and folk artists.  With five minutes between sets on two stages, the festival aims to unite Michigan’s roots music scene for a single night to help celebrate Michigan’s musical diversity. The Majestic Theatre and Grand Circus Media are proud to present Wayfarer Roots & Bluegrass Festival at the Magic Stick on Saturday June 25th.

Wayfarer 2012 Lineup:  American Babies, Frontier Ruckus, The Ragbirds, Deadstring Brothers, Chris Bathgate, Rachael Davis Band, Doops and the Inside Outlaws, The Juliets, The Giving Tree Band, Black Jake and the Carnies, Dragon Wagon, Brian Sheehan, and Abigail Stauffer.

Motor City Beard and Moustache Championship

MCBMC on IFC Show “Whisker Wars”

 

Join us, as we create history on April 16, 2011. GAFBO is teaming up with the Detroit Beard League, The Great Lakes Beard and Mustache Camaraderie, and Grand Circus Media to bring you an epic night of epic epicness. We will have beards. We will have mustaches. We will have live music provided by Detroit Beard League founder and 2009 WBMC veteran Mike Dutkewych. We will be featuring local artists and their facial hair masterpieces.

Of course, we are not just doing this for fun (although it is going to be incredibly fun). The night will benefit Youthville Detroit and their mission to benefit youth by facilitating effective partnerships. Youthville not only offers services and classes to Detroit youth, they engage them to be active participants in the direction of their own development. Youthville offers a plethora of programs to assist youths in forming and achieving their dreams. And you can help too. 100% of all money made by entrance fees, raffle prizes, and artwork sold goes to benefit Y

outhville Detroit.

General Information:

Date: April 16, 2011

Time: Doors at 7:00 p.m., Event starts at 8:00 p.m.

Location: Small’s Bar – 10339 Conant, Hamtramck, MI

Tickets: $10 for contestants, $5 for general public. If you pay at the door, it will be cash only for entrance. Once inside Small’s, you will be able to use your credit/debit card to make purchases. However, some of the vendors will be unable to process cards, so you may want to bring some extra cash for raffle tickets, shirts, posters, etc.

This is an 18+ event. Attendees who are between the ages of 18-20 will have to pay a nominal fee in addition to the general entrance fee ($3). This is a bar rule, not a GAFBO rule.

-40/60 Raffle (You win 40% of the pot, the other 60% goes to Youthville)
-A 6-pack of specialty Michigan beers
-A GAFBO clock (Hand made). Win this, and you’ll always know what time it is.

There will be raffles, beard and moustache art for sale, Mitten Made will be in attendance selling her goods, The Detroit Beard League and Great Lakes Beard and Moustache Camaraderie will be selling merchandise. GAFBO will be handling the raffle items, and selling bumper stickers.
